Yugoslav-era Slovenia had a pretty big Prog. Rock scene especially in the 70s. I'd go as far to say they had the region's best bands in that sound out of all their neighbors. Though there were groups like Korni Grupa and Time, Slovenia was more western-oriented than the rest which let it be varied musically. This is September's debut record, spanning seven tracks across half an hour.
Vrijeme Gospodar [Time Master] just like most of this album is slickly played, bordering on Jazz-Fusion with how clean it is. Along with the standard instruments also present are an electric violin, multiple drummers and a keyboard. The fast drumming and violin especially often add a sense of urgency to these tracks, keeping the album smooth throughout. Not all of the members are Slovenian, like the Croatian Tihomir "Pop" Asanović on keyboard and Ratko Divjak on drums. It's a instrumentally packed release, feeling like a collaborative effort the whole way through. It's a consistently fast-paced set of tracks only occasionally taking a moment to breathe like one of its highlights, Ostavi Trag [Leave a Mark]. A memorable example of their musical prowess is the prolonged drum intro on the title track, transitioning into another light-hearted track. On vocals and bass is Karel "Čarli" Novak, who has a nice presence on this album with his singing and even more so bass-playing. He gives the tracks an important sense of direction even while they experiment with the song structures and playing.
Zadnja Avantura [Final Adventure] is one of Slovenia's best Rock records I've heard so far, brimming with fun production and a polished tracklist. I'll review more of this scene's bands too eventually, as they deserve more attention online.
