In53ct is a smaller Canadian rapper, being a leading figure in the relatively new Folk Plugg sound. This is his last tape of 2025, mostly produced by i.v.
Rainy Day, Paper World is defined by its production and In53ct's vocals. The songs are short, feeling more like snapshots of distant memories than fully-formed tracks. The only features are fellow Emo Plugg artists Swords2 and Xxffcyuvcui, delivering short but sweet verses. In53ct himself softly mumbles through this album, sometimes singing or rapping but always with an underlying vulnerability present. Lyrically he's again simple in a very nostalgically homesick way, a mood I rarely hear in the underground as a whole. His flows are melodic, stumbling across the beats. I.v. and the other producers deliver great production, Plugg beats under a layer of acoustic instruments and wistful vocals. A highlight in every aspect being the Swords2 collab Doorstep, with one of the softest beats and the two rappers providing great verses. It's a quite consistent release, never losing its footing or pace.
One of the most endearingly honest Rap albums in recent memory, characterized by the pure emotion in every facet of it. A promising release in in53ct's relatively young career and an important work in the emerging Folk Plugg sound.
7.5/10
