Gomi - from sc (2025)

Gomi is a strange artist from the UK scene. His discography besides this tape and a few EPs is all singles. His visual aesthetic is comprised of anime, random images, japanese text and a general unpleasantly lonely mood. 

This release has such a unique production style, it feels influenced by Sigilkore but it's much more light-hearted and sample-focused than the former. What is carried over though is plenty of audio effects most notable the strange bitcrushed sound of the vocals. The songs are very short, not leaving much space to breath instead usually just being a single verse and maybe some repetition too. 

E 私たちは今、私たちはトランスでエクスタシーをポップ is one of my favorites here, with that Snap-esque beat and strange vocal delivery. This tape's appeal is primarily rhe ear-candy nature of it and the breakneck pacing. I can't think of anything in the modern underground that carries the mood of this album, it's hedonism expreed through a lense of self-hatred and loneliness. Not at all a foreign idea to his peers but there's an otherworldly, uncomfortable feeling this carries. The uneasy delivery of entry og, the sugary Nightcore-esque music of Dancin ✰✰✰ and Reason 3style, along all the other quirks of this tape make for an interesting listen. Importantly, it's also just very fun and replayable. 

A strange tape, yet fun and semi-accesible. I'm interested to see where Gomi is going to go next, whether or not he'll develop this sound more or do something else is up to him.
