Released near the very end of 2025, Watchme is the second single by Miami producer/singer-songwriter Camila Amezquita under the alias of roachg1rl. Emerging amidst a wave of digicore and nu-indietronica characterized by post-internet aesthetics, Watchme damn near instantly establishes itself as both one of the scene's definitive tracks and as one of the best songs of 2025. Opening with Far Side Virtual-esque midi instrumentation, the track quickly builds an ethereal, Lucy Bedroque-ian soundscape, digicore vocal chops et all, to deeply transcendental results. roachg1rl's gorgeous, floaty vocals are held down to earth only by the jerk drums backing the track and a thick 808 bass. Soon after the 30 second mark begins a chiptune synth lead a la SlayWorld, soon followed by bubbly synth plucks reminscent of Early 2010s Nintendo Menu Music. The track quiets down for its ending, peeling back its layers to just Amezquita's reverb-drenched vocals and instrumental ambience, giving listeners a moment to reflect on the love-struck seas of sound they just heard. Watchme is an addictive, deeply layered haze of delicate melodies and is utter aural heaven, which should not be missed by any fans of Gen Z underground music. Keep up with roachg1rl; singles like this show she has something special.
