Styles: Diary Plugg, PluggnB, Emo Rap | US
Virginia rapper Glosuka (born July 24, 2002), a former member of the #twilight collective which defined the diary plugg wave of 2022 Soundcloud and a current member of collaborator Xaviersobased's 1c collective has been consistently releasing music since ~2022. Singles such as P4rk, tAller and the best of which, P4in, have each received pretty solid amounts of online traction, though with none having surpassed a few hundred thousand streams on Soundcloud. Despite paling in popularity when compared to the Patchmades and Sedateds of the time, you would be pressed to find any track more perfectly emblematic of 2022 Soundcloud than Glosuka's crowning achievement, P4in; If there was a ever a diary plugg track to hear, P4in would be that track, undoubtedly.
The track starts with a sludgy, engulfing synth reminiscent of the Lone sample on Hi-C's The Long Way (albeit slower and more chill) and a thick, spacious sub bass, immediately establishing a hazy, heavy atmosphere and laying a strong foundation for the rest of the track to build off of. At the 15 second mark, jerk drums typical of 1c kick in and Glosuka begins flowing across the track in a way no short of being utterly gorgeous, sing-rapping in a highly melodic and emo-tinged way that is irresistible from the first second. The lyrics of P4in describe an attempt at reconnecting with an ex-lover and knowing that the relationship likely won't work due to the struggles (the "pains") of both parties involved, adding to the already bittersweet nature of the track and giving the track a level of intimacy.
The 1:50 mark begins the second major part of the track, replaying the first part of the track at a much faster tempo. The result compliments the first part of the track perfectly and serves to be just as enjoyable as what proceeds it, adding to the track's replay value and (along with the following segment) turning P4in from something good into a psychedelic rap masterpiece. 3 minutes and 10 seconds in begins the outro segment of P4in, returning to a slower BPM to play an instrumental version of the chorus with its added synth ditty, playing out until the tracks fades and ends, gluing the track together as a cohesive piece and making the track less repetitive than it otherwise would be. Forever in its feelings, P4in is both a beautifully executed piece of internet rap and the golden standard for pop songwriting in the 2020s. It, alongside Glosuka's other masterpieces Evri One Go Thru Shit and Wut Happened?, cannot be missed by anyone interested in 2020s underground music. This is the music of the times.
